assigned to the following units, teams, or detachments:
(1) Deployable Port Security Units (PSU).
(2) International Maritime Law Enforcement Team (IMLET).
(3) Composite Naval Coastal Warfare Units (CNCWU)/ Harbor Defense Command
(HDC).
(4) Coast Guard Liaison Officers to DOD.
(5) LEDETs when deployed with units wearing CUUs.
(6) Coast Guard personnel participating in DOD marksmanship programs.
(7) Coast Guard personnel who directly support the operations or training of these units
may wear CUUs while performing those duties. Authorization may be given by the
cognizant Operational or Administrative Commander of these units without prior
permission from Commandant (G-ODO).

The following is further guidance or Coast Guard specific modifications to
OPNAVINST 1020.4C:
(1) Unit ball caps or other types of unit distinctive covers will not be worn, except by
(2) Substitute "U.S. COAST GUARD" in place of "U.S. NAVY" for all service
identification markings.
(3) Unit patches may be worn at the discretion of the commanding officer of a
commissioned Port Security Unit. Patches will be tasteful, subtle, and respectful.
Patches will be embroidered using the same color background and outline thread as
is used for name tags. Unit patches will be centered on the upper left shoulder one
half inch below the top of the shoulder seam. The composite nature of CNCWU's
obliges that Coast Guard personnel attached to them are not authorized to wear
patches. Team and detachments are not commissioned units, and patches are not
authorized.
(4) During joint or multi-nation operations where the distinguishing of individual
national military personnel is desired and overrides the tactical consideration of full
color insignia on uniforms, the U.S. Flag may be authorized for wear. The wear of
the flag on utility uniforms is at the discretion of the organizational commander.
During joint operations, the joint commander will normally prescribe the policy.
When the flag is approved for wear, it will be sewn one half inch below the right
shoulder seam. Title 4, United States Code, Chapter 1, provides for the design and
specifies the colors of the United States Flag as red, white, and blue. Subdued
