The grant will be up to ,000 per year to each student and will be renewed each year
for four years so long as the student, in the opinion of the committee, continues to
qualify. Scholastic promise, motivation, moral character, leadership qualities, and good
citizenship are the major considerations for the selection of the awardees.
4.
QUALIFICATIONS AND APPLICATION PROCEDURES.
a.
Applicants must have had an average of "B" or better beginning in their sophomore year
in high school and shall furnish a complete high school transcript signed by a school
official. The results of SAT, ACT, or PSAT college entrance examinations shall be
included, if available. A letter of recommendation from the principal of the school
attending is desirable.
b.
Applications from students already enrolled as full-time college students are also
eligible for this scholarship. Applicants must submit a complete copy of their high
school transcript signed by a school official, SAT, ACT or PSAT scores and their
current college transcript.
c.
Applicants shall submit a letter to the President of the Coast Guard Foundation
enumerating reasons for desiring to continue their education. Applicants should, if
possible, include evidence of acceptance or tentative acceptance at an institution of
higher learning of their choice. (A two year or four year course of study at a properly
accredited technical or vocational training school will qualify for those students not
seeking a formal education.)
d.
Applicants will be selected on a objective and non-discriminatory basis. Grant money
will be dispersed directly to the institution in payment towards expenses of tuition, room
and board, books, fees, etc. It is intended that the selectees will be full-time students.
