include a determination as to the need for detoxification prior to rehabilitation.
b.
Reservists performing active duty of 90 days or more will follow the guidelines in this
Instruction. This includes reservists serving on extended active duty (EAD), temporary
active duty (TEMAC), active duty for training (ADT) and special active duty for training
(SADT). For those reservists performing any of the above types of active duty for 89 days
or less, the procedures in the Reserve Administration and Training Manual, COMDTINST
M1001.27 (series) shall apply.
c.
Rehabilitation can be met by a variety of means in a variety of circumstances. While the
Coast Guard is responsible for providing access to treatment facilities, the member is
responsible for taking advantage of this opportunity for rehabilitative treatment.
4.
PROCEDURES.
a.
Members found to be users of illegal drugs shall be offered medical evaluation to
determine if they are, in fact, drug dependent. Procedures for medical evaluation
(reference (c)) will be used to screen for drug dependency.
b.
Members diagnosed as drug dependent shall be offered rehabilitative treatment prior to
discharge. If the member accepts treatment, the command will contact the Alcohol
Program Representative at the Health and Safety Division of the appropriate Maintenance
and Logistics Command to arrange for such treatment. If the member declines treatment,
discharge procedures will continue. A CG-3307, Administrative Remarks, entry will be
made indicating the member's acceptance/refusal of treatment.
c.
The member's command, through coordination with COMMANDANT (G-PE/G-PO/G-
RSM), will ensure that administrative separation procedures are completed in order to
effect seperation immediately following treatment.
