commanding officers of headquarters units, assistant commandants for directorates, Chief Counsel,

3. DIRECTIVE(S) AFFECTED. The Policy and Procedures for Administering the Federal Logistics
Data (FED LOG) Program for the U.S. Coast Guard, COMDTINST 4400.22 is cancelled.
4. DISCUSSION.
a. Maximum utilization of FED LOG is obtained on a Coast Guard Standard Workstation
(CGSWS) equipped with a CD or DVD drive and a licensed copy of Microsoft Windows 2000 or
Windows XP operating system. FED LOG is usually played in a four-drive configuration.
However, there are two optional add-on CDs to the FED LOG program that may be installed.
Disk 5 contains a characteristics search program that allows you to search not only by item, but
by color, material, grade, length, size, etc. Disk 6 is a drawing disk that can be used to visually
pick out items. With disk 6 the user may view drawings of various objects to locate the correct
path. Starting with the October 2004 edition, FED LOG will be available either on a five-disc
CD set or a single DVD. The previous CD set options of basic (discs 1-4), characteristics (disc
5), and/or drawings (disc 6) will not be produced separately. The five-disc CD set and DVD will
contain all the data in the previous six-disc set, plus additional Federal Logistics Information
System packaging data.
