Site and Date Selection. The DIRAUX and DCO of each host district shall
work directly with the appropriate National Course Coordinator in determining
recommendations for site and date selections. Since students will not normally be
funded by Headquarters, every effort shall be made to keep student cost at a minimum
without reducing the effectiveness of the training. Whenever possible in planning site
locations, first choice shall go to adequate Coast Guard facilities. These facilities
include air conditioned classrooms with sufficient training area and berthing facilities to
accommodate all Auxiliarists. If these are not readily available, commercial facilities
shall then be selected. Due to logistics and coordination problems often encountered,
use of non-Coast Guard military facilities is not recommended. Site and date selections
shall be made as early as possible to allow dissemination of information to prospective
students, the selection of students and planning for the school by all participants.
Commandant (G-NAB-1) will maintain contact with the host DIRAUX and keep the
appropriate Department Chiefs informed of related developments concerning the school.
The host coordination with the site representative and the appropriate National Course
Coordinator to ensure the needs of the best and the students are met.
c.
Student Selection. Using the criteria established by course prerequisites and input from
the appropriate Department Chief, the host DIRAUX and DCO are responsible for the
selection of the students. The host DIRAUX shall publish and distribute information
regarding the school prior to the selected date to allow Auxiliarists sufficient time to
plan and prepare to attend. Maximum class sizes for National Schools are: Operations
30; ATON/CU 30; Vessel Examiner 30; Instructor Training 30 and Recruiting School
30. A list of alternate students shall be developed and maintained by the host DIRAUX
to fill last minute cancellations should they occur. An advance copy of the students
selected list shall be sent by the host DIRAUX to Commandant (G-NAB-1) with a copy
to DC-T and other appropriate Department Chief DC-O, for ATON/CU and Operations,
DC-VE for Vessel Examiner, DC-T for Instructor Training, and DC-MR for Recruiting
School one month prior to selected school dates.
d.
National Course Coordinator. A National Course Coordinator will be named for each
school by the DC-T in consolation with the appropriate Department Chief. The
National Course Coordinator will be responsible for meeting the selected dates of the
school and making necessary arrangements with the host DIRAUX, keeping the
instructions, DC-T, District Commodore and appropriate Department Chief informed of
