an
assessment
of total
mercury
in sediments
an
assessment
of the percent of total
mercury
in methyl form
and
an
assessment
of the level of
mercury
in biota.
The
findings
of the prototype investigations
showed:
low to non-detectable levels of total
mercury
in sediments;
little, if any, evidence of bioavailability of
mercury
as
measured
by the
percent of total
mercury
in methylated form,
and
no evidence of
harm
to aquatic biota as
measured
by total
mercury
in
biological
tissue.
The
results of the demonstration removal
program
indicated that battery
removals
may
have
a short-term effect of elevating the level of
mercury
in
sediments immediately following removals.
