PURPOSE. This instruction establishes the policies and procedures for use of any Coast
Guard aircraft in command/support operations originating from Washington DC, and for
use of the VC-11A and VC-4A, regardless of mission origin. Command/support operations
include transportation and certain members of the Secretary's staff, the Commandant and
members of his staff, and such other personnel as may be authorized by the Commandant.

DIRECTIVES AFFECTED. COMDTINST 4630.1I is cancelled.

DISCUSSION.
a. Reference (a) requires that commercial transportation be used to the maximum
extent practicable, consistent with meeting mission needs effectively and
economically. Flights on USCG aircraft for transportation purposes, regardless of
the senior level official on board, will be limited to those which are clearly in the
best interest of the Federal Government from an economical or mission-
accomplishment standpoint and have been approved in accordance with the
procedures in this directive.
